lingerie washer bag
How do I wash a “gentle cycle” garment in a “cottons” and “perm press” washer?

My brand-new plus-size clothing says to wash in the gentle cycle. All my washer has is Cottons or Perm Press. I REALLY don’t want to harm my clothing and I don’t have access to better washers. I’ve been drying all my “medium” or “low” heat garments just on hangers. A lot of work for me but I figure the clothes might last me longer and fit me better that way. My dryer’s settings are cotton, perm press, and air fluff.

I was going to just put the clothing in one of the net sweater bags that are bigger than the lingerie bags but they are long dresses.
I have 10, 7, and 5 minutes on the wrinkle-free perm press cycle. I discovered that cycle is called “easy care” by my machine. I do not know where to get a large garment bag. Does it still have lots of holes in it all over like the lingerie bags do?

I have thought of hand washing it the first time and using the machine’s tub as my wash tub. How do u get the machine to drain when u want it to, though?

The perm press setting is more gentle than the cottons setting. If you can choose a short perm press cycle, use it. If you can use a large garment bag, do that.

If your dress has some details or embellishments that you don’t want to damage, I would do it by hand in the sink.

If it’s your own washer, and not a laundromat or apartment laundry, you can use the washer as a tub and do more items at once.

Let the washer fill a bit with tepid water, add soap, allow it to begin agitation, then shut it off. Put your dresses in there and swish them around. Allow to soak for awhile. Drain washer. Allow to fill with clean water, swish around again. Wring out and hang to dry.

Perm press in your dryer should be medium heat.
