What is the difference between pantyhose of 100% nylon and the ones with lycra?
I’m fairly new to this fashion field. I’d like to get to know more due to the dress code at my work place. Anyway, I notice that pantyhose made of 100% nylon are cheaper than the one with a lycra mixture. Are there any significant differences? Do they feel or look different on legs? A friend of mine told me nylon+lycra pantyhose are shimmery and 100% ones are not. Is this true?
Thanks.
I really think they should not even make 100% nylon pantyhose anymore, these 99 cent bargain pantyhose are what makes people think they are awful. Because for the most part, 100% nylon pantyhose are kind of awful.
At one time they were the best kind that existed, but since then new materials and methods have been developed and they have improved. Using lycra and spandex makes them more elastic, more durable, and more comfortable.
Nylon is a rigid fabric really, compare it to plastic. When nylon is pulled it does not stretch, it breaks. And it does not very well conform to your body.
As far as looks, I suppose it’s a matter of opinion. 100% nylon looks more sheer, diaphanous, and delicate. Pantyhose with a lycra blend look and feel tight, smooth, and soft.
Something I think people don’t realize is that pantyhose should be pretty tight, buying loose ones that are too large are the source of all kinds of problems. Hose that are very form fitting are much more comfortable.
I would recommend Leggs Sheer Energy, No-Nonsense Smart Support, or one of the Hanes Alive styles. These are all very well made and I think the best.
An alternative to pantyhose might be opaque tights. Very comfortable, very durable, and also in style these days. Eh, depends on your style I suppose.
bottom line – don’t buy 99 cent pantyhose
