Has anyone ever done a coat hanger and panty hose biomorphic sculpture?
What are some good designs I should do?
make something abstract. first draw a line drawing. something that would give you about 5 elements reaching out into space.
get a heavy piece of wood for a base and some very short fat nails. bend an end of the wire into a small curve and nail it to the board. now start shaping your first element or form, and nail down the next end. pull the panty hose down over it and secure it with thread (use a spool of the clear plastic kind – ask the salelady in the sewing notions dept of hobby, craft, or sewing store to show you – it is cheap) now add the second form and so on… hint, you don’t have to use just regular panty hose. buy a package of the knee hi ones and go to a shoe store and ask for a free pair of the “footies” ladies use to try on shoes. they may donate a few extra if you ask nicely and tellthem it is for a school project…be sure to thank them too. these different shapes and sizes will give you a little more flexibility… hey, make feet sticking up from the board – several in different sizes!! hands, even. be sure your sculpture is really 3D – looks good from ALL sides, not too flat on one side or the other – get some extensions out into space. have fun!
